Im looking forward to next year as well! this year i confronted a lot of mediums that i used to despise, such as acrylic paint and clay. Ive learned that i should try everything at least once, and try to have a positive attitude towards anything that comes into my life. I am going to take this lesson with me for the rest of my life, and try to stay as open minded as i can possibly be. Next year in art i am going to try to be even more adventurous in my artistic endeavors. <div> Plus, my book is coming along well and i'm excited to work on it over the summer!<br><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwbkuBaS42AB3eFRw0QvcLYwQmf7begBS8xVVpYfH6QSyG6LIRjoU2f77N15kb1CYJheK0Gu0bGNseT7pXiCC-2AnRm815nWluR5MDLONftXa1E7wG9XEPpj_i-Jrcru2r-z6jUC0j7hm1/s640/blogger-image-773947500.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwbkuBaS42AB3eFRw0QvcLYwQmf7begBS8xVVpYfH6QSyG6LIRjoU2f77N15kb1CYJheK0Gu0bGNseT7pXiCC-2AnRm815nWluR5MDLONftXa1E7wG9XEPpj_i-Jrcru2r-z6jUC0j7hm1/s640/blogger-image-773947500.jpg"></a></div><br></div></div>Amelia Mhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10657969873914928599noreply@blogger.com1Haddon Township High School 406 Memorial Avenue, Westmont39.904742 -75.057246tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3344223689852268264.post-41756904199424456972014-06-08T21:26:00.001-07:002014-06-10T06:20:30.284-07:00Time CapsuleSince the beginning of the school year, Ms Kiick has been preparing us for a time capsule project, and it has finally come around! The box itself was to represent ourselves, at this time in our lives, to the fullest. As this past year has been a particularly spiritual adventure, i wanted to keep my box simple but powerful, using a lot of violet(color of Amethyst, enlightenment, and the highest-vibrating color in our visible color-spectrum) and eyes!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqF5NwEXNdfw2qbmU3YgWf-HneopJn_iogmSN13NgJNsJb6GvyhxE9Tdu3D_m1NvhUyZyeVotwgE1G6lKyU9-Dkju_2OsxZ1M2ydm07qlVTeLYCc7TUyeXAJzn5-O_tMPMYteP2VHxW43j/s640/blogger-image--40127069.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqF5NwEXNdfw2qbmU3YgWf-HneopJn_iogmSN13NgJNsJb6GvyhxE9Tdu3D_m1NvhUyZyeVotwgE1G6lKyU9-Dkju_2OsxZ1M2ydm07qlVTeLYCc7TUyeXAJzn5-O_tMPMYteP2VHxW43j/s640/blogger-image--40127069.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Only i know what lies inside the box! Mystical forest treasures and strange codes! But what if someone else discovered my treasure box in the next twenty years? </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"> <b><u>The Last Crystal</u></b></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<b><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span></b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><b> </b>The year is 2034. Sometime in the middle of the year 2025, a mass economic and environmental collapse ocurred worldwide. The people of today's world refer to this as "the Crash". The world's population was sliced in half, due to nuclear warfare and extreme levels of radioactivity. The United States has become a barnaric wasteland, and a battleground for he who tries to re-conquer the land. People have reverted back to a kind of primal state, but they are barely surviving in an unnatural, destroyed world. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"> There are very few forests left, almost all of America was industrialized and urbanized before the Crash occurred. The air in our atmosphere has been brown since 2020. I am currently wearing a very old gas-mask from the 1990's, this is one of my key elements of survival. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"> I found some plant seeds and have stolen plants from various stores in order to begin my garden. The soil outside is too radioactive to plant anything in, so my garden is inside a greenhouse. I dont think i could have lived without coming across this home i am in. It's in a very rural area in New Jersey. Whoever lived here before me was probably a zombie-apocolypse prepper, as i have found: </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"> -a gas mask </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"> -2 years worth of food in a hidden room</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"> -countless amount of unused batteries</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"> -4 automatic guns, a good supply of bullets</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"> -this green house with seeds, fresh soil in bags, and large barrels of water.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"> -hatchets and hammers and instruments-of-protection galore</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"> -The Anarchist Cookbook</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"> -several books on surviving the apocalypse, zombie apocalypse, and economic crisis</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"> -approximately 30 lighters scattered about the house </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"> This guy had it all, and i am extremely grateful to have found this amazing little place for myself, away from most of the craziness of the cities. The nearest possible humans are on the other sideof the surprisingly large forest that this house is hidden in, about 7 miles away. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"> Today i have observed my plant seeds have grown to a decent size. I have planted tomatoes, strawberries, an apple tree, basil, ginger, and potatoes.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"> As i looked over my plant progress, i noticed something i hadn't noticed before peeking out from under the soil in the one unused planter spot. I reached into the dirt and pulled up a puzzling fossil: a light-feeling box, kept together with packing tape. The drawings were wearing away, but it was still distinguishable that the patterns were of eyes. The eyes looked wise and calm. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"> I got a knife and ripped off the packing tape. What i found inside made my heart skip a beat. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"> Phone numbers, addresses, drawings, a broke-in-half blue egg, a tooth of some sort, and a piece of quartz crystal. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"> The items were so organic, so natural and... Relieving, i suppose. In a world where barely anything organic is still alive and present, something about these items in this strange box felt sacred to me. I hadn't been so overwhelmed with emotion in months, i was caught off guard with feelings of joy, nostalgia, and human connection. This was me connecting with whoever left the box here, seeing what was important to them. It was the first real connective feeling i had felt in years. The crystal was beautiful. It had to be one of the last crystals in existence. (in 2030, the earth lost all it's precious gems and crystals to an experimental energy solution, but it did not work and all the crystals were smashed and incinerated, they are very rare now.) </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"> I cherish this box now, especially the Quartz. I charge the small crystal in the sunlight and think of it as a good luck charm. The things i found in this box give me hope for our planet and humanity, something that i almost lost. </span></div>

Sometimes my dreams seem so realistic that i question what realm i'm in.<div> For some reason all of my dreams seem to be set in the same few places: a strange underground world that is accessed to through a locker/elevator, a small run-down house, in a car usually with someone i know in person, or in a forest, all at night time. <br><div> The worst part about having an over-active imagination, is sleep. My mind runs rampant in the night, and can run into some of my darkest memories and wildest fears. This is where i lose control, and nightmares happen. They are still set in the same places, but more darkly-lit and erie looking. Just the mood of the places in my nightmares is stressfull and scary. Sometimes my nightmares have been so bad that i cant sleep, and cry. </div><div> Lately i have been trying to master the art if lucid dreaming, in order to gain control of my sleep and mood again. I have been having less nightmares lately and getting better and more rejuvenating sleep. I hope to one day go deeper into my dream world and see what my mind really has to offer creatively.</div><div> </div></div>Amelia Mhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10657969873914928599noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3344223689852268264.post-75892909617959766442014-01-28T14:32:00.002-08:002014-01-28T14:32:32.925-08:00Fortune Cookie Inspired Collage<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

We were given 10 fortune cookies, and had to use our fortunes to create a collage! Most of my fortunes had to do with staying calm, being patient, and being comfortable. Also, one of the "Speak Chinese" words was "house", and that's what gave me the house idea.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
A home should be a comfortable, safe place. With this piece I wanted to express how much I love my own home, it's my only true sanctuary from the world. The second I get home after a long day and put my bag down, I feel a calm settle over me. In my house, I can truly focus on the positive: my patience, my genuine happiness, my comfort. I hope that everyone has a true home that they can depend on for comfort and safety, regardless if it's an actual house or not!</div>

To me, the word "pop" doesn't only mean "popular", but also "exciting" and "bright". This project was simple but fun, and I got to take advantage of BIC and Sharpie's old and new colors! I wanted something vibrant and fun, but also strange with "off" elements in it. I didn't want just a happy rainbow mess. The stamp of the eyeball I made was to represent the Third Eye, a spiritual concept of an all-seeing, all-conscious eye that lies within all of us. If you would like to learn more about the idea of the Third Eye, check out this great and clear explanation <a href="http://personaltao.com/taoism-library/shamanic-teachings/about-visions/what-is-the-third-eye/" target="_blank">HERE</a> </div>

When I think of celebrities and the "glamorous life" that they appear to live, I think of scandal, ruined lives, unstable people and drugs. Fame screws people up tremendously, and if a person is in the spotlight, the entire world sees their mistakes. It's hard to live a comfortable, stable life, when a person is always on the move and using up every bit of their energy to entertain. I sympathize with those who can handle this lifestyle.Amelia Mhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10657969873914928599noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3344223689852268264.post-38496151261535426572013-11-15T05:44:00.002-08:002013-11-15T05:44:46.492-08:00The Blue CollectionAll the creative arts classes brought in blue objects and put them all in a big pile to create a big blue collection.Blue was the color chosen by the votes of the students.<br />

I love this picture because it shows American culture in today's world; painkiller meds, shaving razors because of our obsession with hairless bodies, everything probably made in China, food with nutrition information all over. It's a strange, artificial world were living in,but it's definitely colorful. </div>

<br /></div>
<div>
I've had my nature collection for about 2 years now. It's a special little place that I set up in my cabinet where I keep all the eye catchingly beautiful bits of nature that I find on my travels. I believe in paganism, which is a polytheistic Celtic-based religion centered around nature. My collection includes a Barn Owl mask my mom made for me, bird feathers, Deer and Opossum teeth, my baby teeth, dead Cicadas and their shells, dried mushrooms, dried plants, a dead Pandora Sphinx moth, rocks, seashells, crystals, "Sleep Balm" (a lotion with special oils in it that are supposed to enhance dreaming), some of my own drawings, and jewelry that I feel is sacred. </div>

I definitely preferred the candy jar project, just because there was a lot more room for color and interesting visuals with the glass and wrappers. I'm not a big fan of bikes.Amelia Mhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10657969873914928599noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3344223689852268264.post-61626696590036422762013-11-01T15:33:00.001-07:002013-11-01T15:33:03.808-07:00Candy Jar Assignment<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I was a little apprehensive about taking Creative arts, and I worried that I wasn't going to produce anything good.<br />
It was great to start out with coloring our book pages though, it wasn't a difficult or complicated task and it was a good way to get the creative ideas flowing. I think it was one of my favorite activities actually, it was relaxing to play around with the ink and water and see what designs I could make.<br />
After that I had confidence again that I could produce good art, and that's when we had our lantern project. I'm looking at my lantern right now and I still love it, I didn't think I would do well on paper cutting, but I learned that I really enjoy it, and now sometimes when I'm bored and at home, I'll borrow one of my mom's exacto-knives and make cool little designs.<br />
I also got to express my pro-choice views on abortion with my collage. Keeping abortion legal is something that's really important to me, and I'm proud of my collage and how aggressive and "loud" it turned out.<br />
Then with our artist projects, I found out that M.C Escher was a really cool guy and he's now one of my favorite artists. I honestly just picked him because his name sounded cool.<br />
I'm not the best with anything 3-dimensional, so the ceramic work was a bit of a challenge for me, but my tea set still came out nicely!<br />
And I'm absolutely in love with my book, I'm going to keep adding on to it all summer and maybe even into next school year. Over the summer I plan to add pictures of different doodles I do in the book. This book has helped me create a new style with my drawing that makes me feel like I'm expressing myself a lot more accurately, and it makes me feel really happy and comfortable.<br />
Overall, it was a good art year. I'm content with it, and I had fun sitting with <a href="http://www.zachcreativeartsclass.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Zach</a> and <a href="http://www.daretoresistt.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Catie</a> who are two super rad interesting and inspiring people. Wack Blind Contour+Fun Colors+Cute, Kitschy Things=Correct</h2>
We were given mirrors, paper, and fine-pointed black-ink pens, and told to do a blind contour of ourselves. A blind contour drawing, is when you draw without looking down at your paper, and usually using only one, long consistent line to create the image.<br />
Then, we were to embellish the drawing with different aspects of our personality. What we like, dislike, want to be, who we are.<br />
I decided to take my drawing home and work on the piece with my Faber Castell markers! They're my favorite markers in the world, and the India Ink makes the outcome really pigmented and bright.<br />
Here's the finished product! (in bad quality, thank you phone..) <br />

HEY YOU, PERSON FROM NEW JERSEY AND/OR PHILADELPHIA AREA:</h2>
If you have no plans for Saturday, February 9th from 5:30 pm to 8 pm, and $10 to spare, you should come down to the Haddon Township High School cafeteria to eat a whole bunch of soup/pasta for a good cause! You get your own handmade ceramic bowl to keep (Made by all the art class students) and you can get as much food as you want! All the proceeds go to the Food Bank of New Jersey, so pretty much you're eating so someone else can eat. Fall</h2>
<h2>
<br /></h2>
Fall actually isn't my favorite season; spring is. BUT, Autumn is my second favorite, for all the cliche reasons. Not super cold (perfect for tea), pretty colors, nice smells from those cute people who have potpourri everywhere around their house, cute, cuddly clothing, and over-dramatic scenes of dead leaves flying around people in sad movies. <br />
We were to create a cut-paper lantern inspired by a season! I thought of those sad-movie scenes with the leaves whipping around in the breeze, and decided to base my lantern's design around that scene.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLB4UmekvueHIdb3Zj4v7t9Xs7F_s_krhioaDhos8sP72ro6M-zH_F5L0028izq-2fsWxnDyzIIyOE6mvXQWhiXov3gMr_AQM60qC_eZ5L886mibcwvX8Su_CV9hdGuVFnmnIP_07HVayw/s1600/106_6964.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="229" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLB4UmekvueHIdb3Zj4v7t9Xs7F_s_krhioaDhos8sP72ro6M-zH_F5L0028izq-2fsWxnDyzIIyOE6mvXQWhiXov3gMr_AQM60qC_eZ5L886mibcwvX8Su_CV9hdGuVFnmnIP_07HVayw/s320/106_6964.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
This is probably 1/3rd of the way in! Some people asked me if it was difficult to make the lines smooth, but for some reason it was really easy and actually felt therapeutic to make nice, rounded lines with the Exacto-knife (fun fact..?).<br />
<br />
Here are some pictures of the finished product, after all the pieces were cut out, and the paper was glued to thinner tissue-like paper!<br />

When the lights are out and a candle's inside, it looks super cool, but unfortunately I don't have a picture of that :\<br />
This would probably be a really fun project to do at home though, and since you'd have more time, one could get some wack detail and do something awesome. <br />

<h2>
<b> </b>June 17th, 1898-March 27th 1972</h2>
<h2>
<br /></h2>
<h2>
<br /></h2>
<h2>
<br /></h2>
Born in Leeuwarden, Netherlands, M. C. Escher was a famous Dutch graphic artist, whom throughout his whole life made 448 lithographs, woodcuts, wood engravings, along with over 2000 drawings and sketches. His mathematical talents helped him create the unique and interesting art that he did, and with this he explored the concepts of infinity, tesselations and architecture. (Fun little fact: he was left handed!)<br />
<br />
<br />
<u>Schooling</u><br />
In Arnhem, he attended primary and secondary school from 1903-1918. When he failed the second grade, he was put into a special school for the sickly and disabled, as he was so. His grades weren't the greatest, but he completely excelled in the arts and drawing.<br />
In 1919, he went ot the Haarlem School of Architecture and Decorative Arts. He failed a number of subjects, mostly due to his persistent skin infection. He briefly studied Architecture, but he didn't like it too much, and switched to Decorative Arts. In 1922 he left school, as he felt he had gained enough experience in making woodcuts and drawing.<br />
His first experience with mathematics began with George Polya's paper on plane symmetry groups. This would inspire many works of Escher's. He never had any formal schooling/training with mathematics. If you'd like to read more about what the plane symmetry groups are, here's a good article!: <a href="http://www.clarku.edu/~djoyce/wallpaper/seventeen.html" target="_blank">[Link]</a><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: 12.0pt; mso-ansi-language: EN-US; mso-fareast-language: EN-US;"></span>
<br />
<br />
<u>The Art!</u><br />
The first graphic work that M.C. Escher created that was really praised was a linoleum cut in purple of his father in 1916. Escher's beginning work was mostly landscapes and very real, slightly bland images. He then went on a trip through Italy and France, and got a chance to look at all the ancient AND modern architecture. He wanted to improve on the artwork of the Moors, and that's where he got the idea to start most of his work with a geometric grid as a base. His interest in architecture came back, and to put a twist on it, he wanted to make it all funky! He began to drawing images of Italian architecture binding and turning and going all off what the planes in real life looked like, sometimes this is referred to as "mental imagery". He was also fascinated with 3-dimensional shapes like the <a href="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/c/c1/Penrose-dreieck.svg/192px-Penrose-dreieck.svg.png" target="_blank">Penrose Triangle</a> and the <a href="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/5/52/Necker_cube_and_impossible_cube.svg/402px-Necker_cube_and_impossible_cube.svg.png" target="_blank">Necker Cube</a>.<br />
<br />
<br />So I'll show you some of this artwork that features tesselations, infinity, and "mental imagery"!:<br />

He was a cool guy with interesting ideas. Some quotes about his own work:</h2>
<br />
-"I think I have never yet done any work with the aim of symbolizing a
particular idea, but the fact that a symbol is sometimes discovered or
remarked upon is valuable for me because it makes it easier to accept
the inexplicable nature of my
hobbies, which constantly preoccupy me."<br />
-"I try in my prints to testify that we live in a beautiful and orderly
world, not in a chaos without norms, even though that is how it
sometimes appears. My subjects are also often playful: I cannot refrain
from demonstrating the nonsensicalness of some of
what we take to be irrefutable certainties. It is, for example, a
pleasure to deliberately mix together objects of two and three
dimensions, surface and spatial relationships, and to make fun of
gravity."<br />

I chose a more morally-centered argument, but a very important one: Should abortion be illegal or not?<br />
For me, the answer is no. A very strong no. If a woman is raped, she has every right to abort that fetus. If a woman is forced to bear the child of her rapist, a man who has probably traumatized her for life, it is a much larger crime, as opposed to going against someone's religion. It is not ANY man's right to dictate what a woman can and can't do with her body. I could rant on, but I'm just gonna get to the art part!<br />
Again, I started out with pink, red, yellow and orange ink-stained paper. The colors of the paper actually inspired the whole concept. Bright colors represent to me the boldness that this issue takes on, and the neon pink especially, represents the power that women must have, and take hold of to keep our bodies out of the hands of old male politicians.<br />
But the assignment was make a collage! I hadn't made a collage in a while, and I just decided to jump in with whatever I thought of first. What did I think of first?<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhwgTv9FfR0IWS4sru8WOEKyJWTzAzWJ7dW8xmlGHJvnWjwgJkV8IMQzalRQtoDWcJ4KvWHe6DRwnfAu9Ned-BusQXsCq9ncHz3x7B5l90KxbN9XA5bv_ZV6lpdJEgC8kUdBpJHAJ23yCd/s1600/il_fullxfull.303036483.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="215" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhwgTv9FfR0IWS4sru8WOEKyJWTzAzWJ7dW8xmlGHJvnWjwgJkV8IMQzalRQtoDWcJ4KvWHe6DRwnfAu9Ned-BusQXsCq9ncHz3x7B5l90KxbN9XA5bv_ZV6lpdJEgC8kUdBpJHAJ23yCd/s320/il_fullxfull.303036483.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0UBE_AOU4xtlIkBIKDOX-sC8PBeOu9R1ciTrt4Lmu27jK_iqXXvDoRbaIiyYMEdUjztjSYvHRLKtchsLEq_9yhgPAJirBuneqleSEQnUqpPtuwhIzWeX7c7H4VMvPU3ly3v2pl2f_QtDl/s1600/no-mitt-460x307.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0UBE_AOU4xtlIkBIKDOX-sC8PBeOu9R1ciTrt4Lmu27jK_iqXXvDoRbaIiyYMEdUjztjSYvHRLKtchsLEq_9yhgPAJirBuneqleSEQnUqpPtuwhIzWeX7c7H4VMvPU3ly3v2pl2f_QtDl/s320/no-mitt-460x307.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBkw03t9sGORqOsobfEDIzTEf4QYgABjVhfD1B-uFlwffJmQpa3emKdrA_6MfbxwFQlNZp8vh_csu_THOgLIntIzl27sy6tG-z5CBXUGrV3lGvzxsbQNdXdoTAIRYbFl05BTN0ffc9Fe3i/s1600/img-thing.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBkw03t9sGORqOsobfEDIzTEf4QYgABjVhfD1B-uFlwffJmQpa3emKdrA_6MfbxwFQlNZp8vh_csu_THOgLIntIzl27sy6tG-z5CBXUGrV3lGvzxsbQNdXdoTAIRYbFl05BTN0ffc9Fe3i/s1600/img-thing.jpg" /></a></div>
I ended up not being able to work the image of a coat hanger into the collage, but I did discretely put a very made-up dragqueen-ish Mitt Romney in the background. I also worked in a good women's rights quote in the background. The symbol that's <i>very </i>prominent is the feminist fist. As I dont label myself a "feminist", I wanted this symbol to represent women in general, whether or not they feel that strongly about their rights.<br />
I printed out a labeled picture of a woman's reproductive organs, and that's self explanatory. <br />
I found a pair of a woman's legs on the back of a magazine in a Project Runway add,and i thought that was just a cool touch to add to the "women are powerful" thing. <br />
I then drew on little Leopard spots on the fist, because Leopard spots are fabulous and stereotypically "feminine", and I wanted to make the collage a bit more super-femme.<br />
Over all of this, I glued on the word "Mine" three times. I downloaded the drippy font onto my computer, then made two of the "mine"s a light pink, while leaving one black. The one that was left black is purposely very bold. This was not meant to be a subtle piece. <br />
The issue of abortion is still a very dark thing though, so with red and black Acrylic paint, I dabbed on the dark, bloody-looking combination in random spots and the edges to create a kind-of burned, maybe spray painted effect. The red also represents all the women who have had to get illegal, and very messy abortions in the past, and have tragically died for it.<br />
<br />
Here's the finished product!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqGW2fxO1YPEAZrzE-HYIXaMv9ZnI-bZpLYiLqN-C6lANXwFkO7tAX9RTicVr0IheU0k1xtASNgaot9pS6B7liJm8R5S-diHWrZPcUSdz1aRCBEAJNp-sINTH3eTrvo4uofybsECs19SFR/s1600/tumblr_md3d1cI7Nv1r1ikl6o1_500.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqGW2fxO1YPEAZrzE-HYIXaMv9ZnI-bZpLYiLqN-C6lANXwFkO7tAX9RTicVr0IheU0k1xtASNgaot9pS6B7liJm8R5S-diHWrZPcUSdz1aRCBEAJNp-sINTH3eTrvo4uofybsECs19SFR/s320/tumblr_md3d1cI7Nv1r1ikl6o1_500.jpg" width="239" /> </a> </div>

Amelia Mhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10657969873914928599noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3344223689852268264.post-39017880935980709012012-11-06T08:21:00.002-08:002012-11-06T08:21:38.927-08:00Shoe Drawing So the first assignment we had this quarter was to draw some shoes! And not just "take one shoe, draw it, you're done". Each student brought in one or more shoes to add to what would become big piles of them!<br />
We then cut out little view-finders out of blank index cards so we could focus in on the area we wanted to draw. We weren't just told to draw whatever we see; this assignment was about composition, and making shapes and textures work together. When we made a final decision on what our picture would be, we could take pictures with our cellphones, with or without using the viewfinder, to have an image to refer back to if the shoes were moved at all at any point.<br />
I chose to draw my shoes on a piece of paper that I had stained with red, orange, pink and yellow ink. It was a bit of a challenge to make even the 6B pencil stand out on the super-saturated paper, so once I had finished shading the drawing in with the regular pencils, I decided to add some extra dark values with a dark red and black colored pencil. I have a thing for super thick outlines, so I tried to combine my love for those with trying to make the drawing still look realistic, as opposed to cartoon-y. <br />
So here's the final product!!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
